- The only thing worse than being entirely misunderstood by others is being entirely understood. More on that in a few…
- You will never find true happiness in the way other people view you; only, really, yourself.
- There was a man we called the ‘Shakespeare Bum’, who used to hang around the college dorms and speak in Shakespearean English for change. He charmed everyone by being blunt, honest, and himself. A friend and I walked with him a few blocks one time on our way to class. He said he’d never been more content being able to meet so many people and not having to be anyone but himself. That I will never forget.
- Wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, parent, boss - mean nothing. You are here on this planet to do what works for you. This is your journey. It’s an amazing thing to have a companion to share in your successes, but those are not by any means a God given right.
- You were created equal, and you will treat others the same. (Not to namedrop, but the one time I saw Tarantino smile last night was when I didn’t fawn all over him and just pointed him in the direction of the bathroom). We were all born the same. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Those people have no priorities.
- The cycle will always continue, and every moment will pass - good and bad. Don’t live in the past, and don’t worry about the future. Just concentrate on the present and be a good guy/gal.
- Once others figure you out, there is nowhere else to go. This is how people become stagnant. Always change, always be open to go with the river and to see where it takes you. The river goes both ways. Sometimes you’ll end up where you started. It’s best not to get bitter, and just to dive right back in again.
- ‘Want’ and ‘need’ are two very different things, and I’ve seen lives ruined on such a simple confusion between the two.
- There’s a difference between a permanent state of adolescence and a permanent state of wonder.
- There’s one lone, solitary ‘I’ in ‘self righteous’.
- Be thankful for what you’ve got. Be grateful for the hard work you’re going to put in to get what you don’t have.
- Say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, and hold doors open for people the same way someone held a door open for you to get you to where you are.
I’d like to close with these two, because they took me the longest to figure out.
- Every good story I have begins with “I had no idea it was going to happen”.
- Every bad story I have begins with “I’d planned everything out”.
the whole world should read this.
